The other night RJ and I visited Team Millennia, one of the dance teams performing at our launch party on October 9. We only planned to make a quick announcement, but ended up staying for their entire practice, mildly nostalgic for the days when he and I used to dance.
It’s gonna be a big year for TM, and not just because they have the biggest team they’ve ever had (over 40). They’re also going to be auditioning again for the next season of America’s Best Dance Crew, and they have a really good chance. If you watched last season, they made it to the televised audition, but unfortunately (because of the talent and uniqueness of the teams in the West division) they were cut on the first episode by the judges. But if that didn’t happen, they would’ve made it far.
Count on it this year. If you could bet on ABDC, I’d put good money on TM because their experience already puts them ahead of the competition. Now, they have 2 seasons of ABDC to study and know what kinds of teams make it far and how they can differentiate themselves. And lastly, what happened last year is fresh in their minds, so they’ve got hunger and humility. A dangerous combination.
That’s a cheesy ass title, but I wanted to let you know how things are going, because we’re absolutely ecstatic about the response we’ve been getting so far. Aside from the new designs and new users we’ve been getting, we’ve been working on three things:
Planning our launch party
Manufacturing the designs that have won so far
Redesigning the web site for launch
And everything’s on track. The launch party is going to be a big deal. It’s taking place at Element Hollywood on Thursday, 10/09/08 @ 9:30PM, and we hope you can make it.
In honor of 2nd winning design, this week’s Honorary Fitizen is the first video game character most of us have ever come to love and appreciate. “To Plumb or Not To Plumb” will go on sale on Oct. 9th with the Grand Opening of our brand new online store, so be on the lookout for that.
Congratulations to you, Mario. Our childhoods would have sucked fireballs without you.
1) Google Chrome
If you’ve downloaded the new internet browser by Google called Chrome, you may have noticed a rotated F-DOT on the bottom right corner of text fields.
2) CNET’s Loaded
If you watch Natali Del Conte’s online tech news show “Loaded”, you may notice an F-DOT on one of the skyscrapers on her backdrop.
3) Rich’s office
Our friend Rich sent us this pic after he noticed that his boss inadvertently placed their board magnets into an F-DOT.
Sorry for the lack of updates on the blog recently. We’ve been hard at work preparing for our official launch.
We created the flyer below to spread the word, beginning our company’s gradual emergence from secrecy.
You may notice that we’ve upped the prize from $250 to $1000 for this month and beyond.
So stay close. We’re doing big things this month, and we want you to come along for the ride.
Our very own rjxxl created the 2nd winning design — “To Plumb or Not to Plumb,” inspired by the childhood nostalgia of the 8-bit era. The cap will be on sale, along with the 1st winning design, on 10/09/08 at both our launch party and our brand new online store.
Right now, the site you see when you visit fitizen.com is our beta site. We’re currently working on the official redesign that will be launching on the night of 10/09/08. (We have a big launch party planned in LA that night and we hope you can attend, so stay close for more details.) But because of how much time and energy we’ve invested in this community, to get things just right, it’s been easy for us to get wrapped up in the minutiae and forget the big picture. We want to remind ourselves, and you, what FITIZEN is all about.
FITIZEN is a community of individuals.
Our chosen canvas is the fitted cap, but at the end of the day, FITIZEN is about people interacting with people. When everyone is given a voice, good things happen: relationships are formed, information is shared, opinions are heard. But a fitizen knows that as a member of the community, they have a responsibility to participate. And as they participate, they contribute to the community. And as they grow individually, their contributions improve. And as their contributions improve, the community improves. And so the strength of the community depends on the strength of its individuals. How appropriate that the name of our community is the name of its individuals.
FITIZEN is committed to providing opportunity. The world is full of opportunities, and our goal is to provide as much opportunity to our community as possible: the opportunity for unknown designers to gain exposure, the opportunity for consumers to have a voice in their fashion, the opportunity for designers and consumers to have a dialogue with each other, the opportunity to choose from the finest selection of fitted caps in the world, and the opportunity to directly support the artists behind them.
